Northern Rangers Make Mixed Open Final in their First Year

The newly formed Northern Rangers which incorporates Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Port Stephens, Tamworth & Warialda performed exceptionally well in their first Oztag Senior Australian Championships.

Under the guidance of Player Coach, Blake Holmes the Northern Rangers had the following results to reach the final against the East Coast Dolphins:

Game 1: Wolves 11 def Northern Rangers 7
Game 2: Northern Rangers 9 def Sydney Patriots 8
Game 3: Northern Rangers 16 def ACT 9
Game 4: Northern Rangers 7 drew with Sydney Warriors 7
Game 5: Northern Rangers 15 def North Queensland Phoenix 5
Game 6: Northern Rangers 28 def Central Queensland Heat 2
QF: Northern Rangers 11 def Sydney Patriots 1
SF: Northern Rangers 14 def West Sydney Tigers 12
F: East Coast Dolphins 7 def Northern Rangers 4

The semi final was a nail biter which went into extra time, with the Rangers getting a two pointer to progress to the final.

This time around, the East Coast Dolphins were too strong in the final, taking the title with a 7-4 victory but can the new kids on the block go one better in 2020…? It’s very rare for a new region to perform so well in their first attempt, so credit where it’s due. Well done to everyone involved, top effort Rangers!
