Search for best school Oztag teams in NSW on at Champions of Champions tournament

The search for New South Wales’ best High School Oztag teams is on this week with the NSW Oztag Champions of Champions tournament beginning today in western Sydney.

Following 11 regional tournaments held right around the state, the top two teams from each division have progressed to this week’s two day Champions of Champions event.

99 teams will compete in both Boys and Girls 7/8, 9/10 and 11/12 divisions with all sides to play five matches in the hope of booking a spot in Wednesday’s quarter finals.

“We were really impressed by the quality of the tournaments we held right around the state but it’s pretty special to get all the best teams here together for a two day tournament,” NSW Oztag Development Manager Luke Manahan said.

“The best part of our school program is that these sides aren’t all filled with experienced Oztag players.

“We’ve got a number of players here this week who played Oztag for the first time at the regional tournament earlier this year and not only have they picked up the sport incredibly fast, but they’re loving it as well.”

Manahan said a NSW Schools Merit team will be selected in each division and that players from right across the state will be in the mix.

“Glenwood and Crestwood from western Sydney are both very strong schools and are well represented across a number of divisions,” he said.

“Wadalba High on the Central Coast are also very strong, as are McCarthy Catholic College in Tamworth.”

Pool matches began on Tuesday at 10am with quarter finals to begin on Wednesday from 11am.
