South Coast schools dominate NSW Champion of Champions tournament

Schools from the New Souths Wales South Coast have dominated on finals day at the NSW Champion of Champions tournament in Western Sydney. 

Figtree High, Warilla High and Kiama High will all return south as Champions with five other teams from the region contesting this afternoon’s grand finals. 

NSW Oztag held the annual tournament over two days for the first time in 2019 with teams qualifying after finishing in the top two at nine regional tournaments. 

The state’s best Oztag sides then progressed to this week’s tournament and played five pool games ahead of today’s finals. 

On a perfect winter’s afternoon in Penrith, Figtree High defeated Kiama High 5-2 in the Boys 7/8 final, while Warilla High beat local rivals St Mary’s 4-1 in the Girls 7/8 division. 

Gilroy Catholic College from Castle Hill defeated Edmund Rice 5-1 in the Boys 9/10 division and Central Coast school Erina were too good for St Mary’s in the Girls 9/10 final. 

In the Boys 11/12 decider, Kiama beat rivals Edmund Rice, while Woolooware defeated Erina 5-4 in a thrilling Girls 11/12 final. 

NSW Merit Teams will be selected in each division following the completion of play.

Boys 9/10: Gilroy Catholic College 5-1 Edmund Rice

Girls 11/12: Woolooware High 5-4 Erina High
