2021 Tag World Cup Selection Policy and Guidelines

by | May 20, 2019 | Latest News

The process and timing of the selection of Australian squads and final teams to travel to the 2021 Tag World Cup has been made after numerous meetings including taking advice from a professional travel agent.

Due to the next Tag World Cup being played in early August 2021, the normal process of selecting teams from the 2020 Australian Championships was ruled out as an option. Timing was the major factor for booking flights and allowing players to consider family, work commitments/holidays and affordability.

In summary:

Australian Coaches will be appointed pre 2019 Australian Championships

Australian coach along with a selectors panel for each division will select a 25 person squad, announced in April 2020.

The squad will be selected from the 2019 Australian Championships and the 2020 QLD & NSW State Cups.

Region & Association coaches will still be required to submit rating sheets to the selection panel for each division.

Australian Oztag will oversee the selection of the squads.

The final 2021 touring team of 20 will be finalised in June/July of 2020.

This will give the players just over 12 months to organise themselves financially, with family and work.

The Tagaroos will play in the Tag World Cup in August 2021, therefore no Australian teams will be selected from the 2020 Australian Championships.
