Less than 12 months after claiming the lion’s share of titles at the 2018 Tag World Cup, Australia has continued it’s dominance of the international Oztag scene with an impressive performance at the International Invitational Challenge in Sydney.
The green and gold claimed 17 of the 18 divisions when the event was eventually run after being initially postponed due to wet weather earlier this year.
Pacific Islands ensured the home nation didn’t claim a clean sweep, winning the Mixed Seniors division.
While the Australian’s finished the day strongly, they didn’t have things all their own way at Heffron Park in Maroubra.
Lebanon defeated Australia 5-4 in the Men’s 30s earlier in the day before the Australians struck back in the final match.
In the Men’s 18s, an Australian U17s development side also upset the Australian U18s side in the pool rounds.
While the Australian team missed out on claiming the title in the Mixed Seniors division after falling to a Penrith representative side 6-3 and drawing to the Pacific Islands.
International sides will now turn one eye towards the 2021 Tag World Cup, which heads to the Northern Hemisphere for the very first time and will be held in Limerick in Ireland in August 2021.
