Australian Oztag would like to say a big thank you to all the teams that participated in Sunday’s Invitational Challenge but would like to give a special mention to Penrith (Mixed Seniors) and East Coast Orcas (Men’s 16s).
We’d like to thank both representative teams that stepped up to the plate to commit to the tournament and provide a solid hit out for the International teams.
The East Coast Orcas ensured that the Men’s 16s division had a four team pool so teams didn’t require byes throughout the event.
The Orcas performed admirably throughout the tournament and qualified for the final due to a win over Lebanon and a draw with the Pacific Islands. The final against Australia was a classic contest which went into 10 minutes of extra time, with Australia winning after three rights of reply. It was a fantastic game and a terrific effort by both teams. The Orcas should walk away with their heads held high and be very proud of their performances.
Penrith competed in the Mixed Seniors division and needed a win in their last game to take home the title. They went down 1-3 to the Pacific Islands but managed a 6-3 defeat of Australia.

The 2019 Invitational Challenge was originally scheduled to be a part of the SportsFest event run in conjunction with the Central Coast council.
The tournament was set to be held on Sunday, the 22nd of September at EDSAAC Oval in Bateau Bay but due to adverse weather, the council closed the grounds and the Invitational Challenge had to be postponed.
After consultation with the country delegates, the 2019 Invitational Challenge was rescheduled to Sunday, the 1st of December to be held at Heffron Park (Jersey Road, Maroubra) in Sydney.
All the teams have now been confirmed. The updated draw, pools and map will be released very soon. To view the latest information when released, click here.

We were treated to some sizzling Oztag action on day two at the 2019 Oztag Senior Australian Championships.
The East Coast Dolphins and the Central Coast lead as the regions with the most undefeated teams (4 each) after day two. The Vipers and Tigers closely follow with 3 each.

Despite the recent Port Macquarie bushfires, the conditions in Coffs Harbour today for Oztag were very good. Not too hot or cold and plenty of sporadic cloud cover to keep the hot sun away for parts of the day.
After day one, it was the Vipers and the West Sydney Tigers that were the most dominate regions with four teams that have won all their games each. The Vipers have undefeated teams in the Men’s 20s, Men’s Open, Mixed Open & Women’s Open divisions and the West Sydney Tigers have undefeated teams in the Men’s 35s, Mixed 20s, Mixed Open & Women’s 20s divisions.
The ACT and the Wolves are close on their heels with three teams each that have won every game played so far.

The draws and pools for the 2019 Senior Australian Championships have now been released.
The tournament will commence on Friday, the 1st of November and conclude on Sunday, the 3rd of November at the state of the art C.ex Coffs International stadium.
At the 2018 Senior Australian Championships, it was the Central Coast who claimed the most titles with four, followed closely by East Coast Dolphins, Sydney Warriors & the Tigers all with three titles each. Who will be the most dominate region this year?
