NSW Oztag are set to welcome 160 teams to Coffs Harbour ahead of the highly anticipated Senior State Championships this weekend.
The NSW Senior State Championships kicks off this Friday 24 June in Coffs Harbour, with over 2,500 players determined to take home gold.
Teams will play their round games over Friday and Saturday, across both C.ex Stadium and Geoff King Oval, before Sundays Finals converge at C.ex Stadium.
This tournament will be the first time in five years that there is no division two, but rather one prestigious competition to crown the NSW State Champions.
“We had to get back to making this tournament about the elite. To be the best of the best, to be State Champions in one division,” Tournament Director, Bill Harrigan said.
Homebush Men’s Opens will be gunning for seven championships in a row. While three-time runners up and rival contenders, Central Coast are likely to come out firing after losing by one point in last year’s Final.

The Central Coast Men’s 40s and Penrith Senior Mixed will both be striving for three in a row, while Souths Women’s 20s will no doubt have their eyes set on re-claiming the title after losing to the competitive Central Coast girls in 2021.
This year will see Central Coast chase their ninth consecutive Club Championship, with previous hot contenders including Souths, Penrith and Cronulla.

“We love coming back to Coffs – it’s the best venue in the State, and having the tournament in Winter will be a whole new experience,” Harrigan said.
Teams are encouraged to book in for their official team photograph with IB Images via their online booking system, which will place them in the priority system for action shots.
The last of the 2022 NSW Junior State Cup Champions were crowned on Sunday, following a successful four days of Oztag in Coffs Harbour.
Over the course of the weekend, NSW Oztag welcomed 124 teams to Coffs, which saw over 2000 players and 6000 spectators crowd the fields of C.ex Stadium.
Welcomed with nothing but sunshine, the Under 9’s through to 12’s arrived on Sunday, eager and determined to take on their remaining round games and Finals.
As teams itched closer to that gold medal, the standard of Oztag undoubtedly heightened. There were numerous qualifiers that resulted in a one-point difference and three grand finals that headed into thrilling extra time drop offs.
At the conclusion of the tournament – on 103 points – it was Central Coast who claimed the 2022 Junior Club Champions title, with 14 teams qualifying for Semi Finals and five taking home gold.
The race for second was tight, with Souths finishing on 81 points, and Baulkham Hills coming in third on 80.

The second half of the Junior State Cup is well underway in Coffs Harbour, with the Under 9s through to 12s eager to claim the championship title
The Under 9s – 12s kicked off on Saturday 4 June – the excitement written all over their faces as they took to the field with energy to burn and some very impressive hair styles.
With this tournament usually played at Bass Hill, it is the first time many of these players have made the journey to Coffs to compete.
As anticipated, players were quick to apply their months of training and produce some spectacular games of Oztag.
Although there are less teams here this weekend, NSW Oztag were thrilled to welcome so many spectators – making for an awesome atmosphere here at C.ex Stadium.
At the conclusion of Saturday, the following teams sit undefeated heading into Sunday’s remaining round games and Finals.

The first of the 2022 NSW Junior State Cup Champions were crowned on Thursday, following an action-packed two days of Oztag in Coffs Harbour.
The Under 13’s through to 17’s wrapped up their Junior State Cup competition on Thursday 2 June, and despite the added pressure of qualifying for Finals, games were taken to a new level of brilliance.
Spectators crowded the sidelines at both C.ex Stadium and Geoff King Oval, as the importance of a win grew larger.
The atmosphere during Finals was heightened as teams proved adamant to leave nothing behind – resulting in tight qualifiers and exhilarating extra time drop offs.
Being their last year in Juniors, the emotion and intensity among the Under 17s divisions was unmatched.
The Under 17s Boys Grand Final between Souths and Central Coast came down to the wire, finishing in a one-point difference that favoured Central Coast.
The nail-biter that was the Under 17’s Girls Grand Final between Central Coast and Wollongong, finished in a 2-2 draw – sending them into extra time. Drop off went back and forth, before Central Coast secured the victory with a break down the sideline.
Heading into day three of the tournament, Central Coast are current frontrunners for Club Champions (71 points), while Baulkham Hills trail in second (54 points).

The NSW Junior State Championships (13s-17s) kicked off in Coffs Harbour on Wednesday, with high energy and quality Oztag on display.
In near perfect conditions, the Under 13s through to 17s took to the field on Wednesday 1 June, for day one of the much anticipated Junior State Cup tournament.
NSW Oztag welcomed a remarkable 150 teams and over 2000 players to C.ex Stadium and Geoff King Oval, eager and determined to showcase their months of preparation.
The Central Coast Girls 13’s are looking to continue their reign, having won three consecutive State Cup Grand Finals in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
While the Baulkham Hills Girls 15’s, Souths Girls 16’s and Central Coast Girls 17’s are gunning for their third successive championship title.
Over the course of the day, the energy was high and the display of Oztag remained fast, skilful and entertaining – proving the high standard of junior reps filtering through the system.
At the conclusion of day one, Central Coast and Baulkham Hills are at the top of the leaderboard for Club Champions; C.Coast chasing a third-consecutive title.

Keep warm for a good cause at the 2022 Junior State Championships in June, by purchasing a Beanie for Brain Cancer.
The Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) will be attending the NSW Junior State Championships in Coffs Harbour from June 1-5, 2022 for their annual Beanie for Brain Cancer fundraiser.
The 2022 MHF beanies will be on sale for $25 at C.ex Stadium from Wednesday June 1, which is not only the first day of competition in Coffs, but the first day of winter.
NSW Oztag encourage players, coaches, spectators and staff to purchase a beanie to help raise funds for greater research into brain cancer.
“Oztag welcomes Mark, Kirralee and their Beanies campaign, to the NSW Junior State Championships in Coffs,” Tournament Director, Bill Harrigan said.
“I urge all players and parents to buy a beanie, or just say hello and make a donation – it feels good to make a difference,” Harrigan said.
After Mark Hughes was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013, he and his wife began the non-profit, Health Promotion Charity, The Mark Hughes Foundation.
The Beanies for Brain Cancer campaign came about as many brain cancer patients wear beanies to cover scars, bandages, loss of hair and just to keep warm.
Eight years on, the MHF has now sold over 900,000 beanies, raised over $24 million and invested millions into research programs.
The Beanies for Brain Cancer campaign continues to grow every year, making a positive impact on the lives of many people affected by brain cancer.
By having the Beanies for Brain Cancer on sale at the Junior State Championships, NSW Oztag hope to raise awareness and funds that provide hope for current brain cancer patients, and those in the future.
